Apathy and Ignorance

One person asked another one, “What do you think about all the apathy and ignorance in Christianity and our nation?”   The other individual replied, “I don’t know and I don’t care.”   Apathy and ignorance is a path paved with false security.   It truly is the ostrich complex that has not only doomed individuals, but entire nations.   If I say or write something humorous, refer to a sports event, a popular song or movie, or the latest technology, I get instant interested and lively responses.   Oh I know…no one wants to read or hear the doom and gloom.   In a time of peace, that might be an acceptable position.   However, in a time of impending peril it is inappropriate and even dangerous to be apathetic and ignorant of the elements of destruction. Imagine living on a beach and ignoring the reports of an approaching hurricane of unprecedented strength.   The worst possible conclusion is to mistaken the calm before the storm as evidence ...

Abiding in the Vine (A lesson of true Christianity)

Warning: Please do not read this if you are a satisfied nominal Christian—it will only anger you. (John 15:4-8 NKJV)   "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. {5} "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. {6} "If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. {7} "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. {8} "By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. ______________________________________________________________________________ The Lord Jesus' teaching in John 15 is one of the most important lessons in the Word of God.   I cannot think of another tea...

Again, what is a true Christian?

The terms Christianity and Christian have fallen on hard times.   I don’t wish to abandon them, but to rather clarify the qualifications for legitimately applying them.   Consider that a choir sung at Michael Jackson’s funeral, “Soon and very soon, we are going to see the King.”    I once saw a plaque honoring a notorious rapper as a Christian who had lived a wicked life and died a violent death.    When Elvis Presley died, ministers declared emphatically that he had gone to heaven.   I saw a sign in front of a nightclub honoring one of their waitresses declaring, “She’s in heaven tonight.”   The idea of heaven that prevails in society is best captured by the song, “Prop me up against the jukebox when I die.”   All manner of secular individuals who spent their lives in rebellion against God have been eulogized into heaven, but they never arrived as citizens of that celestial city.      People get highly offended if...

Sam Donaldson - an example of what's wrong with America

So Sam Donaldson is calling everyone a racist who disagrees with Obama.  He has disagreed with every Republican president.  So that must mean he is a prejudiced bigot who hates white people.  “Oh, but he is white,” some may point out.  That has nothing to do with it.  There are many people of color who completely disagree with Obama.  Donaldson’s statement reminds me of the hilarious stuttering and stumbling attack by liberals on Bill Cosby when he disagreed with them.  Having tried and failed to tag him with all the synonyms for racist, they eventually called him an “Uncle Tom,” the black equivalent of a racist slur.  Of course, it was immensely hypocritical.  Donaldson’s statement appears to be an embarrassingly gratuitous attempt to pander to African Americans in order to stay relevant.  It is race-baiting at its worse, and hypocritical at its best.  In my opinion, when it comes to common sense and decency, Donaldson is so narr...
